Who are we?
We are the Chelmsford City section of the CTC (Cyclists’ Touring Club) the national cycling charity, catering for more than 70,000 members nationwide, and 1,600 across Essex. We belong to the Essex CTC Member Group as one of four subsidiary Member Groups, or “sections”:
What do we do?
An enthusiastic, friendly and well-supported local group, our enjoyment of cycling is based around a regular programme of ‘Sunday runs’ led by experienced leaders. These are all day rides at a comfortable touring pace (c. 12mph ave.) with regular refreshment stops for ‘elevenses’ in the morning, lunch (usually at a village pub) and a ‘threeses’ stop in the afternoon. Usually, a few riders head back towards Chelmsford after elevenses. Our routes use the extensive and often overlooked network of beautiful and quiet country lanes and byways, avoiding the main roads almost entirely.
This page is regularly updated and includes details of upcoming rides and archives of routes and ride reports:
What does the CTC do?
- CTC, the national cycling charity, inspires and helps people to cycle and keep cycling.
- CTC works to protect and promote cycling to create a healthier, cleaner world, now and for the future.
- CTC campaigns for cycling issues both at local level and in discussion with government.
- We are one of many local groups who want our group rides to help bring CTC to local communities.
