CTC Colchester 100 – 28 September 2014

A new route this year and what an excellent one! Dave S and I were the only Chelmsford riders to participate but 40 other riders took part.  Given the rival attraction of a big charity ride on the same day this was a good turnout.

We left the Bricklayers Arms at just after 9pm and had 6 hours to complete the 106Km course. The early mist soon evaporated and gave way to a warm sunny late September day.  I soon teamed up with Mel who is a SEGs member but sometimes joins us on Chelmsford rides. I had my Focus Cayo bike which meant I could almost keep up with him and with his maps and my (faulty) GPS we managed to avoid navigational errors.

The route can be seen in the Strava links below.  We stopped in Finchingfield for about 15 minutes for refreshments and shortly afterwards for about 10 minutes whilst I changed an inner tube. We arrived back at the Bricklayers Arms after 5Hrs 25 minutes well within the permitted time.

An excellent ride and many thanks to Malcolm for the excellent planning and organisation. I’m looking forward to next year – no need to change the course Malcolm!
