Recreational Ride in Chelmsford – 27 February 2014

CTC’s Richard Monk organises short rides every Thursday and Saturday with financial support he has managed to get from Chelmsford City Council.  The great thing is they are open to everyone from youngsters to (very) OAPs! The rides are very leisurely and adjusted to suit whoever turns up.  They are certainly not for anyone wanting to do 20mph or ride 60 miles!

The rides are described here:   http://www.ctc.org.uk/near-me/essex/chelmsford-champions

and here:  http://www.chelmsford.gov.uk/cycling

Today I joined the group at The Riverside for the start at 10am.  Despite the early morning rain 10 riders turned up and we were led by Mark out of town through Admirals Park in bright sunshine.  Then on to Writtle, through the College grounds and onward to the top of Cow Watering Lane – all on off-road cycle tracks.  From there we turned back towards Writtle on minor roads and made for our coffee stop at Hylands House.

We returned to Chelmsford at about 12.20pm after a relaxing and enjoyable ride.  Highly recommended to anyone wanting to get cycling – everyone gets looked after!
